Category: Project Online / Server

Microsoft’s flagship product when it comes to Project and Portfolio Management is called Project Online. And if you aren’t in the cloud yet (you really should make an effort) there is also an “on-prem” version called Project Server. These products contain so much additional functionality when we compare it to the stand alone application Microsoft Project. Additional functionality such as Risk management, Portfolio prioritization, Shared resource pool, powerful company-wide project and resource overviews, App’s and Power BI reporting functionality. On TPC I cover most of these topics. Some of the content you might like is The Project Online administrator links and Project Server workflows, do or don’t?

But there is much more content, please explore and I hope you find the content that you are looking for. If not, you can always reach out by adding a comment on a post.

Microsoft Roadmap Flow Deep Dive Part 1

Microsoft announced a couple of great new developments during last years Ignite (you can read more about it here). And for Microsoft Roadmap, time has come to start playing around! For a full video on the feature release you can find it on the TPC YouTube channel.

This two part blog post will take a close look at the Microsoft Flow content that comes with the new Roadmap feature. There are two versions of the Flow, one for a connection with Project Online and the second will connect Microsoft Roadmap to Azure Boards.

The Minimum Viable Project (MVP)

Tracking Gantt

I would like to introduce an acronym to everyone. This acronym pops up in a lot of different versions and I would like to add one to the bunch. I’m talking about the MVP. Product managers and entrepreneurs might know it as the Minimum Viable Product, Microsoft consultants/enthusiasts might know it as the Most Valuable Professional. And I would like to provide a new one for an MVP:

Minimum Valuable Project (schedule)

The Minimum Valuable Project (schedule) is a MS Project schedule that has a number of criteria checked to be of any use to a Project Manager.

UserVoice #3: Provide support for backup and restore of a single project

Hi Readers,

I’m so very happy! And it should come as no surprise to you if you are a LinkedIn connection or know anything about me. I’ll tell you why I’m happy:

I’m an MVP!

This basically means that I would need to change my UserVoice series a little bit by stating that I’m reaching out to my fellow MVP’s in the Project and Portfolio Management space. Today, we have Guillaume Rouyre as a guest MVP. He wanted us to take a closer look at the UserVoice item:

Provide support for backup and restore of a single project

And just like many great ideas on the UserVoice for MS Project… This one has been on the site for quite some time, Feb 9, 2016! to be exact.

As of September 2018: There have been 204 votes and 13 comments on this item. Let’s increase it and start voting for this to come to Project Online. Continue reading UserVoice #3: Provide support for backup and restore of a single project

What does Effort Driven do in Microsoft Project?

Hi reader,

Have you ever worked on a schedule and, when adding resources, wondered about this small little checkbox called “effort driven”? It’s a small checkbox that’s not always as visible as you might want it to be. And it has massive effects on a schedule.

This post discusses the effects of the Effort driven option.

About the Microsoft Project UserVoice

Hello reader,

In between creating my own YouTube channel, celebrating 4 years together with my lovely wife, the first birthday of Louise and a holiday to Tuscany. I’ve also started drafting a new TPC series of posts. These will be about the most requested/useful/interesting/frustrating UserVoice items that are in the Microsoft Project UserVoice page.

Four things to know about the Power BI Content Pack for Project Online

At Ignite 2017, Microsoft presented a great new content pack for the Project Online Power BI combination. And after some initial issues with the launch it’s here to stay! I’m very excited about this new version of the Power BI content pack and I would like to share four things that you might not know yet.
