This blog is dead…?

“Dearly beloved, we gather here to remember The Project Corner — a blog that bravely stood between confused PMO managers and Microsoft’s own documentation. It served faithfully as a middleman between people who couldn’t figure out Microsoft Project and a company that couldn’t be bothered to write clear docs. It is survived by approximately 14,000 unread Microsoft Learn articles that said the same thing.”

LAST WORDS “But… but I had REAL-WORLD EXPERIENCE configuring Project Server 2016… you can’t just KNOW that…”

That’s what I got when entering the blog’s URL into a lovely (and frightening) website called: Deathbyclawd.com. I was just scrolling on my phone, so the images are “phone sized”.

Brutal response from the website about my blog.
This really got me thinking, so I’m actually happy about this.

So, now what? Do I just give in and stop producing content? Or is there hope?

But wait, I still have value!

Granted, in the age of AI a blog or even a YouTube channel will struggle to keep it’s head above water. I saw a report that YouTube views were on a downward trajectory since ChatGPT arrived in force. But here’s the niche thing… I know how to create GPTs and I have a ChatGPT pro account.

The death by clawd website shared a MD (markdown) file. And I can add that to a GPT to get nice responses. So, let’s do just that.

Here’s the link to the GPT: The PMO Advisor (you need a Chat GPT pro license to use it).

And then there was Copilot Cowork!

I had this article sit in draft mode for the last 2 weeks, tinkering on it a bit here and there. But today I finish the article, because today I not only have ChatGPT replace me, I have Copilot Cowork!

The loading screen for Copilot Cowork, another Frontier agent available for M365 Copilot licensed people.

This thing is amazing! I gave it a skill similar to the markdown file I got from the DeathbyClawd website. Then added reference articles with good examples. And I asked it to create a article about Copilot and the future of the PMO. You can read the full article and my initial response here.

Here’s more detailed information about Cowork as well.

There is still the hallucination issue

Read this part for instance, coming from The PMO Advisor (ChatGPT):

Here it tells us that “Microsoft continues to support Project Online” but we know that isn’t true.

And there were mentions of Plan 5 being removed as a specific license as well from official sources that for some magical reason I can’t find at the moment…

So, please do not trust Generative AI on face value, and be mindful of possible issues with the content.

I know where AI gets it wrong. That comes from experience, after working on hundreds of projects, migrating complex environments, and dealing with many real-world PMO challenges.

Final notes

So no, this blog isn’t dead.

I think the blog will always be a place where I share my real word view on topics that will help the PMO succeed using Microsoft technology. I also think I will keep an eye on any drafts the AI(s) will produce for me. And honestly, I think that’s a good thing.

But in a world where AI can say anything (fast), the only thing that matters is knowing what’s true, through experiences and verifications.
