Last post of the year, looking ahead

Yeah… this will never rank high in Google 😉. But let’s wrap-up 2025 and look forward to another year together.

That's a wrap for another year of blogging, vlogging, podcasting etc. Hope you enjoyed 2025 together with me.

The Big Changes of 2025

A number of things changed drastically for Microsoft this year, and there were also some personal changes I can share here.

Project Online retirement

In September, Microsoft officially announced the end of Project Online. A tool that has been the enterprise project management (EPM) solution for so many organizations. Trusted and loved/hated for all it could do for PMO’s.

True to Microsoft End Of Life (EOL) agreements the organization gives everyone a 12-month timeslot to prepare for and perform the actual move of everything on Project Online to somewhere else.

Now where that somewhere else is, Microsoft provides 3 options in the official blog. But there are obviously other alternative solutions as I’ve discussed in my own response to the retirement.

It’s a bit of a wild west at the moment, with no clear migration paths for a lot of organizations. More on that later.

Project for the web is now Planner (with premium features)

And will also change soon, as announced at Ignite 2025. While the EPM solution is leaving us, we are looking ahead to Planner. The lightweight scheduling application that’s steadily growing up into a better solution for most (but not all) schedule needs.

The change came quite soon after the Project Online announcement and stirred up another little storm. But the real change will likely happen in 2026 when Planner will truely become just 1 application and not the Frankenstein’s monster it currently is.

A new TPC Production: Podcasting!

In between video editing, blog drafting and working at Context& (yeah we changed our name as well) I found some spare time to start a podcast!

The Voices of the Neighborhood is a podcast where I talk with other TDN MVP’s about what has them excited related to tech. Find all episodes here:

The problem with a “flexible” publication schedule

And while I was working … I sometimes missed a publication deadline. Leaving you hanging for 120 days till a new video got released and maybe even worse timeframes for the blog.

I’m sorry for this, but I hope you can agree with me that life sometimes get’s a head of us and we take too much on our plate.

So, let’s look ahead and make promises we know we might not be able to keep. hmm, let’s call them goals then instead of promises.

What to expect in 2026?

More AI

Duh, moving on…

A change in Planner, and no more Project Online

This is more interesting. Both the Enterprise Project Management solution and the lighter task management solution are changing in 2026.

I’ve written about the end of Project Online before. And made a video about “the end of” Project for the web:

The YouTube video about the end of Project for the web.

While some organizations will move away from Microsoft all together when it comes to their Enterprise Project Management needs. Others might still want to keep close to their “Microsoft unless” principles. So, what will the Microsoft ecosystem be able to offer them? Project Server Subscription? Project Operations? Planner (heavily stacked with AI)? Something completely different? Well, who knows. I’ll be keeping my eyes and ears open and will be writing/talking about it during the year that’s for sure.

And what to expect from The Project Corner?

Blog & Newsletter

I’m aiming to keep my schedule of at least 1 deep dive article per month, with 2 breaks in between. The articles will mostly cover the big changes we see in regard to Project Online and Planner. But who knows, maybe I’ll cover Loop again as well, I do love that tool a lot.

Newsletter wise, I’m sticking with my 6 newsletters per year structure. Where I dedicate a newsletter on 1 of the 3 topics: Power Apps, Power BI and Planner. Previously I would cram the newsletter with links to TPC articles and videos, but this year I’ve changed that and the Newsletter will now contain information I’m not sharing anywhere else. So, make sure you get your copy below ;-).

Video

The YouTube channel is my biggest hobby. I really love the video format to communicate my thoughts. So expect a renewed and more active publication schedule.

“Officially” I’ve set my target to 14 videos for 2026, which is 4 more than in 2025. But secretly I hope I’ll be able to adhere to my original 2018 schedule of publishing a new video every 2 weeks.

Only time will tell what I’ll be able to push, but please let me know if you have any specific PMO related questions you’d like answered on the channel.

Podcast

Steadily keeping the schedule of 1 podcast per month. Talking with another MVP each time. I might jump on a solo episode here and there because of vacations, but be sure to hear more from the TDN MVPs on the podcast.

I’m very happy that it’s already 6 months in and steadily getting an audience.

Final notes

I hope you enjoyed reading TPC in 2025. I’m looking forward to seeing you all back in 2026.

If you’d like to get more, you could also subscribe to my newsletter or even book a meeting for a 1 on 1 to discuss a topic in detail.
